“…and common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) (Hungria et al 2013(Hungria et al , 2016Santos et al 2021). In ten years, more than 200 studies have been published with strains CNPSo 2083 and CNPSo 2084 (Barbosa et al 2021;Santos et al 2021) and plant-growth promotion has been associated mainly with the high levels of phytohormones synthesized by the strains, with an emphasis on indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) (Fukami et al 2017), greatly improving root growth and the uptake of water and nutrients. The strains also contribute via the biological nitrogen fixation process, and induction of mechanisms of resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses (Fukami et al 2018b;Santos et al 2021), and the genes for such properties were confirmed in their genomes (Hungria et al 2018).…”

“…In implanted pastures, there is also the limitation of inoculant application, as the only viable method would be via leaf-spray. However, it is worth mentioning that there are positive indications of success of leaf-spray of A. brasilense in maize (Fukami et al 2016;Barbosa et al 2021), encouraging to verify the feasibility on pastures.…”

“…For common beans, individual inoculation with R. tropici boosted yield by 8.3%, but the addition of A. brasilense raised this gure to 19.6%. A metadata analysis by Barbosa et al (2021) revealed that soybean co-inoculation was related to a 2.8% increase in grain yield and a 3.2% increase in N concentration in the grains with respect to the inoculation only with Bradyrhizobium. In other 37 eld trials, soybean co-inoculation with Bradyrhizobium and A. brasilense also increased mean yield by 227 kg ha −1 with respect to the inoculation with Bradyrhizobium alone and by 335 kg ha −1 with respect to the uninoculated control ).…”

“…Increasing success has been obtained after the deployment of the technology of co-inoculation with Bradyrhizobium spp. and A. brasilense in 2013, with doubled grain yield benefits culminating in the commercial launch of a technological package containing the two bacteria separately (Hungria et al 2013b , 2015 ; Barbosa et al 2021 ; Santos et al 2021 ). In a recent a meta-analysis of 48 publications covering field trials at 38 different locations in Brazil, Barbosa et al ( 2021 ) detected statistically significant increases in grain yield and other plant growth parameters due to the co-inoculation.…”

In addition, the main published studies in Brazil were recently compiled by Santos et al ( 2021 ), and as an example, the studies of Ferri et al ( 2017 ) and Galindo et al ( 2018 ) indicated increases in grain yield due to the co-inoculation of 20.3 and 11.2%, respectively, compared to the inoculation exclusively with Bradyrhizobium .…”
