“…Evidence from metabolic studies and mitochondrial genetics suggested that mtDNA haplogroup may be related to AMS. Prior metabolic studies in rodents and humans exposed to hypobaric hypoxia noted changes in mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) function, ROS production, and activation of the mitochondrial K + channel and of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mtPTP) (Gvozdjáková et al, 1992; Tan et al, 2002; Magalhães et al, 2005; Gonzales et al, 2005; Zhu et al, 2006).
