Metabolic Insight Into the Neuroprotective Effect of Tao-He-Cheng-Qi (THCQ) Decoction on ICH Rats Using Untargeted Metabolomics

Abstract: Tao-He-Cheng-Qi decoction (THCQ) is an effective traditional Chinese medicine used to treat intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). This study was performed to investigate the possible neuroprotective effect of THCQ decoction on secondary brain damage in rats with intracerebral hemorrhage and to elucidate the potential mechanism based on a metabolomics approach. Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into five groups: the sham group, collagenase-induced ICH model group, THCQ low-dose (THCQ-L)-treated group, TH… Show more

“…Because the noninvasive tail vein blood pressure monitor is limited and congested, blood pressure was not measured immediately following administration. In addition, continuous blood pressure monitoring may cause stroke, and Ang II-induced blood pressure variations in mice have been reported previously ( 24 , 33 ). The blood pressure of HCMB mice was substantially higher than that of HTN and CON mice following 28 days of monitoring ( P < 0.05).…”

“…Among the 39 metabolites, 21 metabolites had a comparable expression level in Q vs. C group, which could be the pivotal differential metabolites associated with the therapeutic effect of QWJR ( Table 2 ). The screening method was shown in Figure 5 ( Yang et al, 2021 ).…”

“…Decanoylcarnitine is an important metabolite involved in energy metabolism and is an acylcarnitine. Carnitine combines with fatty acids or deamination products of branched-chain amino acids to form acylcarnitine, which transports metabolites through the cytoplasm to the mitochondria, where β-oxidation occurs during degradation to produce energy ( Yang et al, 2021 ) and has the function of promoting lipid metabolism ( Maruyama et al, 2017 ). Lauric acid is a specific saturated fatty acid with the longest carbon chain among medium-chain fatty acids and does not have cardiovascular disease risk.…”
