Metabolic Syndrome is an Independent Risk Factor for Fuhrman Grade and TNM Stage of Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma

Abstract: Background: More and more evidences show that metabolic syndrome (MS) is closely related to clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), but the impact of MS on Fuhrman grade and TNM stage of ccRCC is rarely reported. Purpose: To explore the relationship between MS and its components of Fuhrman grade and TNM stage in ccRCC. Objective: The clinical data of 247 patients with ccRCC diagnosed in our hospital from January 2016 to November 2020 were retrospectively collected and analyzed. Based on diagnostic criteria of… Show more

“…Using the TNM system, the “T” plus a letter or number (0 to 4) is used to show how far up or away from its original starting point the tumor has grown, and in the case of cancers, this means how far into the wall of the stomach. The TNM system's numerical classifications are as follows [ 19 21 ]: Tis: tumor “in situ” that is caught very early and has not grown beyond stomach lining T1: tumor has grown through lining and into connective tissue T2: tumor has grown into thick inner muscle T3: tumor has spread through outer lining but not to any nearby organs or tissues T4: tumor has spread into nearby tissues or organs …”

“…Two different models were applied. Model 1 was not adjusted while Model 2 was adjusted for income level, diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia known to be associated with the development of RCC [8][9][10][11]. Results are presented as means and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs).…”

“…In the Nurses’ Health study, a significant association between these two types of disease was found—above all, a higher risk of RCC in women [ 68 , 69 ]. In addition, metabolic factors such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia have been shown to be related to the onset and development of ccRCC [ 70 ].…”
