Metagenomic next-generation sequencing for Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex detection: a meta-analysis

Abstract: ObjectiveMetagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) has been gradually applied to the diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) due to its rapid and highly sensitive characteristics. Despite numerous studies on this subject, their results vary significantly. Thus, the current meta-analysis was performed to assess the performance of the mNGS on tuberculosis.MethodsPubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and The Cochrane Library were searched up to June 21, 2023. Studies utilizing the mNGS for tuberculosis detection were includ… Show more

“…This suggests that the cut-off value for TB-IGRA is consistent with the diagnostic criteria, aligning with of previous studies [25,28], indicating that TB-IGRA is a reliable diagnostic tool for PTB infection. Additionally, mNGS has been gradually applied to the diagnosis of TB infection due to its rapid and highly sensitive characteristics [31]. However, the speci city of mNGS is not high compared to the nal clinical diagnosis [32].…”

“…We read with interest the meta-analysis by Li et al (1) on the metagenomic nextgeneration sequencing (mNGS) for Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex detection. mNGS for pathogen detection provides microbial mapping information and can also be used for tailored drug resistance detection, potentially revolutionizing TB diagnosis.…”
