Metaheuristic and probabilistic techniques for optimal allocation and size of biomass distributed generation in unbalanced radial systems

Abstract: In this study, a method for solving a probabilistic three-phase power flow in radial distribution networks and taking into account the technical constraints of the system is presented. Regulation of voltage is one of the main problems to be taken into account in networks with distributed generation. The present study introduces a probabilistic model to determine the performance of the distribution system. This study considers the random nature of lower heating value of biomass and loads. This study presents a … Show more

“…To achieve this aim, a stochastic representation of load is proposed in this study for DERs allocation procedure. Loads of system are modelled to follow the normal distribution function [25]. In this case, the system load is defined by a mean value ( £ ) and standard deviation ( σ ) as below:FLfalse(PDfalse)=thickmathspace12π×σexpPnormalD£22×σ2PtsD=Psdpeak1+Ψt Also, (5) shows the load growth during the planning horizon.…”

“…Biomass fuels are available worldwide, and could be used in similar ways to fossil fuels [4]. Biomass fuels are attractive renewable fuels as a supplement for coal in utility boilers [6][7][8][9][10]. In 2012, a total of 370 TWh of bioenergy sourced electricity was produced, amounting to 1.5% of the world electricity generation [2].…”

“…For this reason and considering the fact that GA is a search technique, GA search should be guided towards a specific region of variable space, in order improve the algorithm efficiency. Over the past few years, a large number of algorithms has been reported on the related research topic such as a mixed‐integer nonlinear optimization, analytical method, and metaheuristic and probabilistic method for optimal DG allocation . In particular, there has been a significant increase in artificial intelligence‐based optimization methods applied for DG allocation problem such as GA, particle swarm optimization, and whale optimisation algorithm .…”
