201 ChemInform Abstract Reaction of an excess of tetrahydrothiophene (I) with TiCl4 yields small quantities of the dimer (II) as a 2:3 diastereomeric mixture. By introducing 2,3-dihydrothiophene (obtained in 53% yield by pyrolysis of 2-benzoyloxytetrahydrothiophene) into the reaction mixture, an increased yield of (II) is obtained, together with the products (III)-(V). The structures of (II), (III) and (IV) are established by independent syntheses (yields given in g).
