Metal Nanoparticles Anchored on Rhenium Disulfide Nanosheets as Catalysts for the Reduction of Aromatic Nitro Compounds

Abstract: The nanohybrids of noble metal (M = Ag, Au, Pd, Pt, and Ru) nanoparticle-decorated rhenium disulfide nanosheets (ReS 2 NSs) were demonstrated as excellent catalysts towards the reduction of aromatic nitro compounds. The M/ReS 2 nanohybrids were synthesized by facile hydrothermal method and characterization results proved that each metal nanoparticle was anchored on the ReS 2 NSs. These nanohybrids exhibited superior catalytic performance towards the reduction of aromatic nitro compounds including 4-nitrophenol… Show more

“…In addition, the isosbestic point observed at ≈325 nm indicates the absence of any byproducts in the reaction. The reduction process of 4‐NP into 4‐aminophenol may involve six‐electron (6e − ) and six‐hydrogen (6H + ) ions transfer, as previously reported . Such electron/hydrogen transfers are mediated via Pd NPs from NaBH 4 to 4‐NP.…”

“…The XRD spectrum of C‐dots exhibits a broad peak centered at ≈21.7° ( Figure a) indicating the amorphous nature of C‐dots due to the presence of oxygen‐containing groups on the surface . For Pd/C‐dots, the XRD spectrum remains almost the same peak position of C‐dots, in addition to the characteristic peaks of Pd at 39.8°, 46.4°, and 67.8° ascribed to (111), (200), and (220) planes of the zero‐valence metallic Pd NPs . The obtained sharp peaks of Pd signify their good crystallinity, consistent with FETEM result.…”
