MetaOntology: Toward developing an ontology for the metaverse

Abstract: Metaverse is now perceived as a celebrated future version of the internet. In this new anticipated virtual universe, interconnected digital platforms leveraged by augmented, extended, and virtual realities will elevate users' immersive experiences through multidimensional interactions. In particular, users will be offered a broad spectrum of digital activities within a newly immersive setting mediated by technology. This study aims to design a domain ontology (MetaOntology) for the metaverse to provide an expl… Show more

“…The structural discourse treats the Metaverse as a phenomenon of interest, and focuses on offering conceptualizations of the Metaverse (Lee et al, 2021;Peukert et al, 2022;Schöbel et al, 2023). It proposes frameworks to classify it (Abu-Salih, 2022;Chen et al, 2022;Kshetri, 2022;Ning et al, 2021;Park and Kim, 2022). These papers-mostly framed as literature reviews, research agendas, or research opinions-seek to introduce the phenomenon to the scientific community.…”

“…Third, persistence ensures the continuity of data (e.g., the position, conversations, property objects) to be saved. Moreover, data can be retrieved easily once the participants are reconnected or not connected to the virtual world (Abu-Salih, 2022). The metaverse platform continues to function and develop even after the users have departed from the virtual world (Almarzouqi et al, 2022).…”

“…These structured representations of knowledge have emerged as indispensable tools in education, catalysing advances driven by their increasingly recognized vital role in augmenting personalised learning, curriculum design, concept mapping, and educational content recommendation systems [ [1] , [2] , [3] , [4] ]. KGs are not a new concept; they have been utilized extensively in domains like healthcare [ 5 ], finance [ 6 ], transportation [ 7 ], business [ 8 ], and other domains [ [9] , [10] , [11] , [12] , [13] , [14] ]. However, their robust integration into the educational realm is a testament to their transformative potential.…”
