Abstract

Dr. Joseph Graly, whose guidance and unparalleled support were the primary drivers in my ability to complete my master's and grow as a professional. From Kathy I learned a great deal about leadership, critical scientific thinking, writing and time management, both through her direct guidance and through her example. Witnessing her sincere care for her students' and colleagues' success has been eye-opening and taught me how great an impact a person can have on the success of others. I feel extremely fortunate for having gotten to work closely with Joseph in the laboratory, on data analysis, gathering information from the literature, and writing the manuscript. Through that relationship I got a first hand look into how cutting-edge scientific research is conducted by highly capable professionals. His mentorship and thoughtful advice has greatly impacted my way of thinking and emboldened my confidence in my own judgement. Both of their patience can not be overstated and I am truly blessed for their unyielding belief in me.
