Method for HDR-like imaging using industrial digital cameras

Abstract: Dynamic range of the scene can be significantly wider than the dynamic range of an image because of limitations of A/D conversion. In such a situation, numerous details of the scene cannot be adequately shown on the image. Standard industrial digital cameras are equipped with an auto-exposure function that automatically sets both the aperture value and cameras exposure time. When measuring a scene with atypical distribution of light and dark elements, the indicated auto-exposure time may not be optimal. The ai… Show more

“…Another application of the advantages of FPGA technology is reflected in the precise synchronization of data from the gyroscope with the image, which is necessary for the IMU stabilization algorithm. In addition to the above applications, FPGA can also be used for the dynamic range extension algorithm shown in [ 26 ]. A stable video link is established between the FPGA and the application processor, so that this channel, after booting the VVSP module, sends either an image from the camera or a test pattern.…”

“…Figure 2.3: HDR Imaging: Using a camera response curve the full dynamic range of the scene is captured from a set of LDR images with different exposure times. Algorithms like Popadic et al's can directly generate HDRlike images from bracketed images[35]. (images from[68]).…”

“…Many approaches proposed to capture the image with the proper dynamic range and some methods measure luminance to capture the HDR image [6]. The basic method is to capture the image simultaneously with the different exposure and then irradiance spatial dimensions of the same scenario [7].…”
