Method for optimizing the protecting pillars parameters in underground coal mining

Abstract: A method for optimizing the protecting pillars parameters during the study of soft enclosing rocks (in Ukraine mines) is represented. The necessity of a differentiated approach has been substantiated when choosing the protecting pillar parameters based on the geomechanical factors analysis influencing the state of massif. Mining and geological situation was analysed. It has been studied a stress-strain state (SSS) along the protecting pillar width with account of the mined-out space on the basis of a computati… Show more

“…The role of modern advanced coal mining technologies is increasing, which contribute to the improvement of its quality and the accumulation of coal mining waste in the underground space of mines, resource saving in the exploitation of underground mine workings, especially in difficult mininggeological conditions [10]- [15]. Therefore, the maintenance of our own coal production [16], [17] in parallel with a "soft" transition to alternative energy sources is a priority task that determines the transformation of coal-mining cities and the sustainable development of our country.…”

“…Such a volume of cavities affects the change in the geodynamic and seismic conditions in the earth's crust. There is a hypothesis that dynamic processes in cavities cause catastrophic phenomena similar to the rock ice slide of the Kolka Glacier in the Karmadon Gorge of North Ossetia and others [14], [15].…”
