Abstract:Carvedilol (CAR) is a 1-(9H-Carbazol-4yloxyl)-3-amino]-2-praponol (1) and it is basic in nature with a pKa of 7.8. CAR is both a beta and alpha receptor blocker that is used in the treatment or management of mild to moderate hypertension as well as other cardiovascular ailments namely heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, angina pectoris, and myocardial infarction (2). Fritz Wiedemann was the first to discover the drug and it is usually in the form of a white crystalline powder (3).
