Methods and technologies for spatial analysis of regional ecosystems based on the watershed approach

Abstract: This article is part of the special series "Environmental Monitoring on Global and Local Scales." The series documents cases of the current state of environmental assessment and tracking using different approaches: in situ monitoring, geoinformation modeling, and risk-based assessment. The work was originally presented at the conference "Ecological Monitoring: Methods and Approaches," held September 2021 in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, and co-organized with the European and Russian-Language Branches of Society of Envi… Show more

“…This approach offers a hydrological system defined sampling transect where the spatio-temporal variability of petroleum contamination is better captured for the assessment of current contamination levels and the monitoring of subsequent petroleum removal processes, ecological status and other restoration indicators (Erunova & Yakubailik, 2023 ; Wei et al, 2023 ).…”

“…Cluster Analysis (CA) assembles objects based on their characteristics and contains a group of multivariate techniques whose primary purpose is to find out objects' common features [36]. Cluster analysis classifies objects based on similarity among them based on a predetermined selection criterion.…”

“…Vast areas cannot be monitored without using satellite remote sensing methods. In a study by Erunova and Yakubailik (2022) included in this special series, spatial analysis and mathematical modeling were applied to assess the state of four river watersheds in Eastern Siberia with a total area of approximately 9 million ha. A detailed multilevel hierarchical system of watershed delineation based on natural characteristics of the territory was created and used for further analysis of the satellite data.…”
