Methods for fatigue-life estimation: A review of the current status and future trends

Abstract: With the development of modern industry and ever more complex structural loads, the possibility of fatigue failure is increasing. Fatigue analysis can be used to evaluate the service life of components and reduce the probability of accidents. Therefore, the development and application of fatigue-analysis technology have important research significance. This paper collects information from a wide field of literature and summarizes the current status of fatigue-analysis research. It covers related theoretical kn… Show more

“…Fatigue life or the number of cycles to failure depends on several factors such as loading type, stress ratio, mean stress effects, and fatigue modification factors. Terminologies discussed in [ 19 ] that are mainly used in assessing fatigue life are shown in Figure 3 . where is the minimum stress and is the maximum stress.…”

“…The extensive model of strain-life fatigue damage considers the load cycle sequence effect called effective strain damage (ESD), which was developed by Abdullah, and it was suggested a better enhancement [14]. The method in acquiring the cause for crack growth and crack closure has functioned properly for several materials, geometries of component, mean-strain effects, load spectra, and magnitudes of strain.…”

“…Although many industries, such as automotive (Reza Kashyzadeh, 2020), agricultural (Mattetti et al, 2012), or aerospace (Tavares & de Castro, 2017), use different standards for estimation and measurement of overall fatigue strength of a designed structure, the fundamental methods stay constant. The main idea is to predict the most probable time or number of cycles the structure can endure (Zhang et al, 2023). The prediction is mostly performed using data on statistical fatigue strength of a given material's test sample.…”
