Abstract:Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disorder that affects predominantly the carbohydrate metabolism, but also the biotransformation of proteins and fat. Many intra-and extracellular metabolic mechanisms are impaired which leads to structural changes in the vascular wall and the heart muscle.
