This paper provides a quantitative and qualitative visual investigation and analysis of the advances in international research on business discourse over the last decade via CiteSpace. Primary findings are: 1) Based on Publication Trend, business discourse research has undergone an upward tendency with few fluctuations; 2) Regarding Keyword Clustering, heated emphasis is laid on research areas encompassing different business scenarios, disciplinary fields (e.g., pedagogy, sociology), and information technological methods (e.g., natural language processing) due to the globalization and digitalization of business activities; 3) Grounding Disciplinary Distribution and Co-occurrence, the main theoretical perspectives in business discourse research comprise linguistics, the interdisciplinary orientation of management and economics, and other applications and extensive research; 4) Topics in Keyword Timeline and Keyword Burst emerge (e.g., social media, systems, and impact). Visualization of business discourse research is expected to offer implications and insights for future research and business practices.

English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is teaching with the aim of assisting learners' study or research in the particular variety of English they may need. It has emerged from over 50 years of research and classroom practice and has become a major influence in university and workplace classrooms in many parts of the world. The basic idea behind ESP is that learners' needs differ enormously according to future academic or occupational goals, and this is why ESP has become so influential in universities around the world in recent years. There is a growing awareness that students have to take on new roles and engage with knowledge in new ways when they enter university and, eventually the workplace. They find that they need to write and read unfamiliar genres, and that communication practices are not uniform across the subjects they encounter. Simply, the English they learnt at school rarely prepares them for that which they need in Higher Education and in the world of work. In this paper I sketch some of the major ideas and practices that have shaped contemporary ESP and look at the main effects it is having on language teaching.

Move Structures and Cognitive Genres in the Methods Sections of Experimental Research Articles and Corpus-Based Studies in Applied Linguistics

This paper reports an investigation of the variation in the move structures and cognitive genres found in the methods sections of research articles (RAs) in a discipline with diversified research methods. Sixty-five RAs involving two research methods in applied linguistics, namely corpus-based studies and experimental research, were analyzed. The results showed that the methods sections of these RAs contained distinct move structures. These distinct move structures, along with the findings of previous studies on the move structures of various disciplines, suggested that the research method adopted in a study is a stronger factor than discipline is in determining the move structure of the methods section. The analysis of the cognitive genres used in the methods sections showed that authors typically require more than one cognitive genre to realize the major moves of the methods sections. However, this variation in the cognitive genres is low between the two patterns of study. These findings suggested that different research methods yield variations in the move structures of the methods sections. However, the cognitive genres that authors require to realize the move structures tend to be common.
