“…In a recent survey of patients in the Dutch Psoriasis Association, 68% of the patients were shown to use combination treatment 13 . Many patients on MTX are often so well managed by the drug that they discontinue their topical therapy 14 . Topical therapy, however, should generally be encouraged to help keep the MTX dose as low as possible.…”
The combination of calcipotriol and MTX was safe and well tolerated. The combination resulted in lower cumulative dosages of MTX compared with MTX and vehicle. Therefore the risk of side-effects is substantially decreased.

“…Most of these have previously been reviewed and found not sufficiently reliable for screening for MTX‐induced liver damage 11,17 . More recently, however, in a new review, both PIIINP and dynamic hepatic scintigraphy have been proposed to be suitable, thereby allowing lengthening of liver biopsy intervals 18 …”
Present data support the view that, as long as PIIINP is consistently normal in serial investigations, there is minimal risk of development of substantial liver fibrosis.
