Metrics for Assessment of Information Systems

Abstract: Measures (or metrics) quantify aspects of Information Systems (IS). This article describes the purposes of metrics for IS assessment and identifies the different types of IS metrics. IS metrics are grouped into four categories including internal performance, growth and learning, user/client perspective, and business contribution. The article concludes by describing various approaches to implementing IS metrics in organizations.
