Metropolis: an integrated electronic system design environment

Abstract: Based on a metamodel with formal semantics that developers can use to capture designs, Metropolis provides an environment for complex electronic-system design that supports simulation, formal analysis, and synthesis.

“…Kianzad and Bhattacharyya propose a framework called CHARMED (Co-synthesis of HARdware-software Multimode EmbeddeD systems) [6] for the automatic design space exploration for periodic multi-mode embedded systems. Balarin et al [7] propose Metropolis, a design space exploration framework which integrates tools for simulation, verification, and synthesis. All these tools have in common that they either do not consider communication at all or assume restricted binding conditions by requiring explicit communication modeling which is prohibitive in networked embedded systems.…”

“…As mentioned in our introduction, there are various related architectural exploration environments (e.g., [7,13,24,27,35]) that, like Sesame, also facilitate flexible system-level performance evaluation by providing support for mapping a behavioral application specification to an architecture specification. In Gries [18], an excellent survey is presented of various methods, tools and environments for early design space exploration.…”

“…Figure 3 shows the proposed method for the real-time analysis of distributed embedded systems. This method builds on the results of platform-based design [27] and model-integrated computing (MIC) [28]. Domain-specific modeling languages (DSMLs) play an essential role in the design and analysis process, and can also be used to synthesize executable code, simulations, or documentation.…”
