“…Our results showed that MGUS prevalence values in Korean men in their 40 (0.00%), 50 (1.63%), and >60 years of age (3.80%) were similar to MGUS values for Japanese males in their 40 (1.2%), 50 (2.7%), and >60 years of age (4.3%) and Chinese men 50–65 years (1.2%) [8, 9]. To date, the MGUS prevalence in Koreans has been determined only in elderly people >65 years [3].…”

“…Our results show that the overall prevalence of MGUS in the Yixing population 50 years of age or older was 0.44%, which is lower than the values of Thailand (2.3%) [2], Japan (2.4%) [3], and Olmsted County (3.2%) [6]. Our value was also lower than that of Hong Kong (0.8%) [4], despite having almost the same Chinese ethnicity, and this may be related to the different methods used. In our study, patients with a suspicious SPEP were subjected to immunofixation electrophoresis and FLC assays; however, patients with an abnormal FLC ratio and/or suspicious SPEP were subjected to immunofixation electrophoresis in the study of Hong Kong.…”

“…The prevalence of MGUS varies from 0.24 to 5.89 % in different countries and increases with patients' advancing age, which is influenced by race, age, sex, and so on [2,3,4,5,6,7]. Specifically, the overall prevalence of MGUS in Thailand is 2.3% [2], which is a bit higher than that in Japan (2.1%) [3 ]and much higher than the values in Hong Kong (0.8%) [4] and Nigeria (0.24%) [5]. Furthermore, the prevalence was shown to be 3.2% [6] in Olmsted County and 5.89% [7 ]in the Ghanaian population among people older than 50 years.…”
