MHD Free Convection and Entropy Generation in a Corrugated Cavity Filled with a Porous Medium Saturated with Nanofluids

Abstract: MHD free convection inside a triangular-wave-shaped corrugated porous cavity with Cu-water nanofluid is numerically studied with the finite element method. The influences of the Grashof number ( 10 4 ≤ Gr ≤ 10 6 ), Hartmann number ( 0 ≤ Ha ≤ 50 ), Darcy number ( 10 − 4 ≤ Da ≤ 10 − 1 ) and solid volume fraction of the nanoparticle ( 0 ≤ ϕ ≤ 0.05 ) on the convective flow features are examined. It is observed that increasing the Grashof number and Darcy number enhances the he… Show more

“…Recent advancements in nanotechnology result to develop a modern class of heat transfer fluid referred to nanofluids prepared by dispersing nanometer-sized particles 10–50 nm (nanoparticles) of metals, non-metals, and carbide in the working fluid water, oil, and alcohol, etc. 1 – 6 . For the first time, the term nanofluid was used by Choi and Eastman 7 .…”

“…It was also discovered that heat transfer and fluid friction are the two main reasons for entropy production in any heat transfer situation. The work has further been extended by several researchers [23][24][25][26][27][28][29] who have investigated the phenomenon of entropy in various flow and heat transfer configurations. However, very little attention has been given to biological fluid flows.…”

“…Every process in nature provides a positive or zero value of entropy generation rate. It is an essential aspect of the 2nd law of thermodynamics [ 21 , 22 ]. The study of entropy generation in closed domain has been analyzed in several studies [ 23 , 24 , 25 ].…”
