Micro Gas-Turbine Design for Small-Scale Hybrid Solar Power Plants

Abstract: Hybrid solar micro gas-turbines are a promising technology for supplying controllable low-carbon electricity in off-grid regions. A thermoeconomic model of three different hybrid micro gas-turbine power plant layouts has been developed, allowing their environmental and economic performance to be analyzed. In terms of receiver design, it was shown that the pressure drop is a key criterion. However, for recuperated layouts, the combined pressure drop of the recuperator and receiver is more important. In terms of… Show more

“…A significant increase of energy production can be achieved with a relatively small increase of LEC (e.g., a 9.5% increase in energy is achieved with 1.8% increase of LEC). The results presented here show that such a configuration may be promising, as economic results for solar hybrid MGT of 100 kW show that the LECs vary in the range of 250-700 $/MWh (according to the chosen set up) [10], while the LEC of a typical diesel generator is about 500 $/MWh [10].…”

“…Hence, a centrifugal compressor design with stationary casing, impeller, stationary vaneless diffuser and volute has been adopted for this study. The design and off-design performance evaluation have been performed using a one-dimensional model based on mass, momentum and energy conservation principles as given in Equations (2) and 3.…”
