Micro-PIXE analysis system at NIRS-electrostatic accelerator facility for various applications

Abstract: A micro-PIXE analysis system based on the ion beam analysis system by Oxford Microbeams Ltd. has been developed at the NIRS-electrostatic accelerator facility. The introduction of the CdTe X-ray detector dramatically improved the detection efficiencies for heavy elements that are important in the life sciences and environmental science. This system has been used for various projects and has provided several meaningful results, thus establishing the micro-PIXE system as an effective tool for the determination o… Show more

“…Cells were subsequently stained with DAPI (4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole; Bio-Rad, California, USA) for nuclear localization and observed under a fluorescence microscope (BZ-X810, Keyence, Osaka, Japan). The samples were air-dried at room temperature for more than 24 h and subjected to micro-PIXE analysis [49]. The sample preparation procedure was based on previous literature with modifications [50].…”

“…An elemental map on the cross-section was captured using the nuclear microprobe at National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS), Japan. A proton beam with the energy of 3.0 MeV from the tandem type electrostatic accelerator was used for the micro-PIXE analysis system installed at NIRS-electrostatic accelerator facility (Oikawa et al 2015). The beam spot was ß1 μm in diameter.…”
