Microbiological Characteristics of Some Stations of Moscow Subway

Abstract: The subway is one of the most actively used means of transport in the traffic infrastructure of large metropolitan areas. More than seven million passengers use the Moscow subway every day, which promotes the exchange of microorganisms between people and the surrounding subway environment. In this research, a study of the bacterial communities of two Moscow subway stations was conducted and the common subway microbiome was determined. However, there were differences in microbiological and antibiotic-resistance… Show more

“…A strong correlation between microbial communities detected on surfaces and those in air has been observed (Gohli et al, 2019; Leung et al, 2021; Pochtovyi et al, 2022). However, air and surface bacteria have different taxa abundances.…”

“…For Yeoksam and Gangnam station, the Shannon's Index was found to be 6.11 and 5.08. The Chao1 index generally displayed higher values for the aerosol samples, providing a more precise evaluation of variety fluctuations [ 35 ]. The Yeoksam sample expanded steadily from the start of the study (Chao1 index = 611) and peaked at Chao1 index = 704 during the evening hours.…”

“…Due to the difficulty of treating these bacteria, multidrug resistant staphylococci isolated from healthcare and non-healthcare situations are receiving more and more attention [ [18] , [36] , [37] , [38] ]. Antibiotic resistance of bioaerosol is a critical problem since many bacteria are capable of transmitting aerosols and because different particles from surfaces can be transported to a suspended state as a result of airflow [ 35 ]. The collected samples were grownbu to evaluate the bacterial resistance gene profile.…”

“…bacteria (Table 2) is very remarkable as an environmental factor. Representatives of Arsenicicoccus are capable of metabolizing arsenic from wastewater [48] and arsenic is a hazardous heavy metal [49]. Furthermore, we studied the endosymbiont bacteria with their hosts on a molecular basis in gut microbiota of N. rupra (Tables 1 and 2).…”
