Abstract: BACKGROUND Mechanical ventilation is a life-saving procedure for most patients in ICUs. But it has a risk of acquiring respiratory tract infections resulting in high morbidity and mortality. If not treated early, it may lead to ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP).
