MicroRNA-101-2-5p targets the ApoB gene in the liver of chicken (Gallus Gallus)

Abstract: Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) is a major protein component of plasma lipoproteins. It is involved in many important biological processes such as lipid transportation, enzyme activity regulation, and receptor recognition. Extensive studies have shown that the expression of ApoB is regulated at multiple levels. However, the regulation of ApoB expression by microRNAs (miRNAs) still remains unknown. In the present study, identified are miRNAs that are predicted to interact with ApoB in chicken. The predicted relationshi… Show more

“…miR-33 can regulate the biological metabolism process of the liver by affecting cholesterol efflux and high-density lipoprotein metabolism [12]. Gga-miR-22-3p and gga-miR-101-2-5p are involved in the hepatic lipid metabolism by targeting the key factors Elovl6 and Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) of the lipid metabolism pathway [13,14]. The differential expression of miRNAs has been reported in the liver tissues of pre-laying and peak-laying hens [15], and obese and non-obese human individuals [16,17].…”

“…We identified miR-22-3p as the most abundant SDE miRNA in chicken liver, playing a key role in the development of fatty liver in mice by steering the target genes and significantly increasing lipid accumulation in human hepatoma (HepG2) cells [61]. Our previous works have shown that miR-22-3p and miR-101-2-5p are involved in chicken hepatic lipid metabolic processes through targeting related genes [62,63]. As the potential target of miR-22-3p, lncRNA ENSGALT00000080371 might also be related to chicken hepatic lipid metabolism.…”

“…Hsa-mir-101-2 is encoded by a gene located in 9p21; studies by Ma et al reveal that miR-101-2-5p was involved in lipid metabolism through binding with the 3′-untranslated region of the ApoB gene in the liver of egg-laying chickens. 67 Furthermore, work by Bae et al suggests that genetic variations of miR-101-2 had a significant association with the clearance of HBV infection. 68 In cancer research, genetic variations of miR-101-2 were associated with significantly increased risk of genetic susceptibility in breast cancer.…”
