microRNA-342-5p and miR-608 inhibit colon cancer tumorigenesis by targeting NAA10

Abstract: miRNAs have been shown to play pivotal roles in the establishment and progression of colon cancer, but their underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. N-acetyltransferase NAA10 participates in many cellular processes, including tumorigenesis. Here we showed that miR-342-5p and miR-608 suppressed the tumorigenesis of colon cancer cells in vitro and in vivo by targeting NAA10 mRNA for degradation. Overexpression of miR-342-5p or miR-608 decreased NAA10 mRNA and protein levels and thereby suppressed cell pr… Show more

“…Aberrant expression of 5 miRNAs reported in this study (miRNA-3615, miRNA-342, miRNA-339, miRNA-182, and miRNA-4485) has been previously reported in relation to liver cirrhosis or HCC malignancy (29) as well as some other cancers such as lung adenocarcinoma (30) , melanoma (31) , colorectal cancer (32) (33) , gastric cancer (34) (35) , intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (36) , colon cancer (37) , and breast cancer (38) (39) . Recently Wojcicka et al employed next generation sequencing to investigate the expression of microRNA in tissue samples of HBV/HCV infected with liver cirrhosis and HCC.…”

“…Studies by Park et al showed Naa10 as required for doxorubicin NF-κB activation by its interaction with the receptor-interacting protein 1 (RIP1) [159]. Recently, NAA10 expression in colon cancer was found regulated by microRNAs, targeting NAA10 for degradation [160].…”

“…miR-608 is a novel prognostic marker in carcinogenesis, its expression is dysregulated in various cancers (18)(19)(20)(21). A previous study by our group demonstrated that downregulation of B-cell lymphocyte xL (BCL-XL), the other major prototype of the anti-apoptotic bcl-2 gene, dysregulates various miRNAs in lung adenocarcinoma cell line A549, including miR-608.…”
