Microstructural and Corrosion Behavior of High Velocity Arc Sprayed FeCrAl/Al Composite Coating on Q235 Steel Substrate

Abstract: High velocity arc spraying was used to prepare FeCrAl/Al composite coating on Q235 steel substrate by simultaneously spraying FeCrAl wire as the anode and Al wire as the cathode. The composite coating was sprayed with varying voltage and current to obtain optimum coating characteristics. FeCrAl coating was also prepared for comparison purposes. The surface microstructure of the coatings was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The average microhardness of the coating… Show more

“…Ye et al [66] used a Cr 2 O 3 -Cr duplex interlayer, in which Cr 2 O 3 layer was an effective barrier to hinder the graphite formation, and the top Cr layer was carburized to Cr 3 C 2 and Cr 7 C 3 to enhance the interfacial adhesion. It is worthwhile to note that in some jobs about high temperature corrosion resistance, Fe-Cr-Al has been used to coat steel substrates and increase their corrosion resistance [67,68]. This may be also a promising interlayer for CVD diamond films on steel substrates.…”

“…The obtained polarization curve was fitted with a Tafel curve to obtain the corrosion voltage and corrosion current, as shown in Table 3. The corrosion potential characterizes the thermodynamic stability of the samples under electrochemical corrosion conditions, while the corrosion current reflects the corrosion rate and the breakdown potential is the lowest potential for pitting corrosion [24]. It can be seen from Figure 14a that the polarization curves of the laser cleaning process with different powers all showed a positive movement compared to that of the matrix.…”

“…Ndiithi et al used high-speed arc spraying method to prepare FeCrAl/Al composite coating on Q235 steel substrate with FeCrAl wire as anode and aluminum wire as cathode. The composite coating had better corrosion resistance than traditional FeCrAl coating [8]. Yang et al used alloy wire thermal spraying technology to prepare AlZnSi coating with lamellar structure on the surface of Q235 steel plate.…”
