Microstructural Characteristics of Electric Discharge Alloyed Layers on Spheroidal Graphite Cast Iron with Different Electrode Materials

Abstract: In this study, electrical discharge alloying (EDA) is used to modify the surface of ferritic spheroidal graphite cast iron. Under the conditions of fixed EDA parameters and variable elements (i.e., electrode materials Fe75mass%Si, Al, Ni, Mg and Cr), these alloying elements are dissolved in substrate. Then, the effects of alloying with different alloying elements on the EDAed layers are investigated. Experimental results reveal that the Mg electrode has produced the thickest EDAed layer while the Cr electrode … Show more

“…From the literature [12,13], the different overlaying currents will affect the degree of dilution effect between the substrate and the overlayer. In this study, the interface region is set to zero; the overlayer is in a forward direction, and the semiquantitative composition and microhardness of the subsurface of the coated specimens were analyzed.…”

“…Lin and Lui 70 used EDA process to modify the surface of ferritic spheroidal graphite (SG) cast iron. Under the conditions of fixed EDA parameters and variable chemical composition of the electrodes (Fe: 75 mass %, Si, Al, Ni, Mg and Cr), the elements of the tool were deposited on the substrate surface.…”
