Microstructure and mechanical properties of composites of bovine derived hydroxyapatite (BHA) reinforced with MgF2

Abstract: Composites of calcinated bovine bone derived hydroxyapatite (BHA) doped 1 and 2 wt% MgF2 were prepared by a sintering process. Microstructure and crystallographic analyses along with measurements of density, compression strength, and microhardness were carried out in the produced samples. The experimental results indicated a beneficial effect of MgF2 in the matrix of BHA reflected in the significant increase of compression strength and microhardness up to 143 MPa and 313 HV, respectively, achieved after sinter… Show more

“…The solid solutions of oxide addition, if any, with the matrix and the corresponding biological behavior of cell tissues against the modified crystal should be investigated. Bovine‐derived HA (BHA) is one of the most preferred natural HA types 4,10‐12 . BHA is usually produced using diluted HCI acid, which enables demineralization and freeze‐drying of the tissues.…”

“…Bovine-derived HA (BHA) is one of the most preferred natural HA types. 4,[10][11][12] BHA is usually produced using diluted HCI acid, which enables demineralization and freeze-drying of the tissues. Even when strict regulations are applied, some deadly high-priority diseases (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) can survive even after all controlled processes.…”
