Microstructure and Weibull distribution of rupture strength of clay-talc ceramics

Abstract: The mechanical properties of clay-talc ceramics containing 0 to 10 wt% of talc fired at 1100 °C were obtained by flexural measurements. With the average value of flexural strength of 23.1 MPa, the sample with 5 wt% of talc (G5) was the strongest and it had the lowest value of interconnected pore (64%). The scattering of strength values was described with the Weibull distribution model. For all samples, Weibull plots showed either a typical linear behavior or a multi-stage response and the Weibull modulus varie… Show more

“…Plasticity index refers to the resistant force to deformation and gives a better appraisal of the behaviour of plastic substance. According to Vieira et al [11], for practical purposes the plasticity index must be above 10% and if it is <10%, are not appropriate for the production of clay-based The magnitude of the thermal changes in clay body largely depend on the grain size, chemical and mineralogical compositions during the fabrication, besides temperature of exposure and its duration, fabric of clay mass and inter particle gets micro structural alterations [12,13,14] . These changes can be seen in the FTIR.…”

“…Weibull Analysis (WA) is a statistical approach for analyzing a material's life cycle statistics. The results of measuring a product's life are known as life statistics [ 31 ]. Failure analysis is a dynamic system of understanding a system's consistent features and activities, employing a minimal model scope of the area [ [32] , [33] , [34] , [35] , [36] , [37] ].…”
