Microstructure, Texture and Mechanical Properties of AZ31 Magnesium Alloy Fabricated by High Strain Rate Biaxial Forging

Abstract: High strain rate biaxial forging (HSRBF) was performed on AZ31 magnesium alloy to an accumulated strain of ΣΔε = 1.32, the related microstructure, texture and mechanical properties were investigated. It was found that the microstructure evolution can be divided into two steps during HSRBF. In the early forging processes, the refinement of the grain is obvious, the size of ~10 μm can be achieved; this can be attributed to the unique mechanisms including the formation of high density twins ({101(-)2} ext… Show more

“…The advantageous properties could be attained only if the reinforcements are distributed homogeneously and not clustered in the matrix. According to the literature available [ 153 , 154 , 155 , 156 , 157 , 158 , 159 , 160 , 161 , 162 , 163 , 164 , 165 , 166 , 167 , 168 , 169 , 170 , 171 , 172 , 173 , 174 , 175 , 176 , 177 , 178 , 179 , 180 , 181 , 182 , 183 , 184 , 185 , 186 , 187 ], limited research has been performed on CNT-reinforced MMCs due to difficulties in fabricating and dispersion of CNTs in the matrix. Most studies investigated the fabrication methods such as the casting process and powder metallurgy for developing Mg-based alloy [ 188 , 189 , 190 , 191 , 192 , 193 , 194 , 195 , 196 , 197 , 198 , 199 , 200 , 201 ,…”

“…It has a density of 1.77 g/cm 3 . AZ31 is less dense than steel and aluminium and hence it is light in weight [16,17]. Si3N4 is a ceramic, which possesses a density of 2.37 g/cm 3 and tensile strength of 60 MPa and compressive strength of 524 MPa and also has very high resistivity to corrosion of acids and alkaline.…”
