Microwave absorption properties of SiC@SiO2@Fe3O4 hybrids in the 2–18 GHz range

Abstract: Abstract:To enhance the microwave absorption performance of silicon carbide nanowires (SiCNWs), SiO 2 nanoshells with a thickness of approximately 2 nm and Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles were grown on the surface of SiCNWs to form SiC@SiO 2 @Fe 3 O 4 hybrids. The microwave absorption performance of the SiC@SiO 2 @Fe 3 O 4 hybrids with different thicknesses was investigated in the frequency range from 2 to 18 GHz using a free-space antenna-based system. The results indicate that SiC@SiO 2 @Fe 3 O 4 hybrids exhibit impr… Show more

“…In this case, the mixing of a magnetic material with a binary dielectric material not only enhances its attenuation ability, but also conserves the degree of impedance matching. In this direction, several composites such as Ag@Fe 3 O 4 /RGO, 154 SiC@SiO 2 @Fe 3 O 4 , 180 hollow carbon@Fe@Fe 3 O 4 nanospheres 165 and many others have been studied so for. Ternary composites can be made either by a core@shell@shell structure, by a combination of three materials or by dispersion of the core@shell structure into a matrix like graphene, PPy or PVDF etc.…”

“…where the impedance of free space Zo, input impedance Zin, frequency of microwave f, velocity of microwaves c, and thickness d. Figure 3 shows two-dimensional (2D) representation RL verses various thicknesses of samples [8,10,15]. Reflection loss (RL) of barium hexaferrite Ba0.6Ca0.4Fe12O19 (0%) showed more than 90% microwave absorption at the frequency range of 8.20-10.19 GHz with a 4 mm thick absorber (Figure 3a).…”

“…In recent years, literature review on the use of barium hexaferrite as microwave absorber was resulted in many published research [8][9]. The study of Neodymium ions activated barium ferrite in composites form (NdBFCs) with composition (20)BaO:(80-x)γ-Fe2O3:(x)Nd2O3 ( x = 0, 1 and 2 mol%) has exhibited a better absorption on microwave X-band absorber applications [10].…”

“…The development of communication techniques with the operation frequency in GHz range such as local internet, mobile communication, and radar systems causes serious electromagnetic (EM) interference pollution [1][2][3][4]. It is highly importunate to eliminate EM interference problems.…”
