Microwave assisted extraction of polysaccharides from Yupingfeng powder and their antioxidant activity

Abstract: Background:Microwave-assisted reflux extraction of polysaccharides YPF-P from the famous Chinese traditional drug, Yupingfeng powder, optimization of extracting conditions and evaluation of their antioxidant activity were conducted in this study. Results:Single factor effect trends were achieved through yields and contends of YPF-P obtained from different extracting conditions. Then through a three-level, four-variable Box-Behnken design of response surface methodology adopting yield as response, the optimal co… Show more

“…SD and SAS activities are comparable to previous study [16]. The presence of functional groups in polysaccharides makes them effective scavengers of hydroxyl radicals [8]. UPS exhibits higher HP and HRS activities at 1 mg/mL than the 25.5% and 26.6% inhibition at 5 mg/mL [36].…”

“…Polysaccharide chelation of metallic ions has garnered attention, influenced by hydroxyl group accessibility and cross-bridges with divalent ions [8]. The metal chelation (MC) assay shows UPS's effective binding capacity with ferrozine, surpassing previous reports [48].…”

“…Astragalus membranaceus has the effect of two-way regulation of excessive sweat and reduced sweat. These two herbals may also have good clinical effect on antioxidation through polysaccharides in Yupingfeng power [ 36 ]. This may regulate abnormal skin sweating in DPN.…”

“…It has the functions of immune regulation (18), anti-virus (19), anti-tumor (20), and anti-aging (21). Yupingfeng polysaccharide is the main substance in the alcohol-precipitation part of Yupingfeng powder, which has many biological functions such as enhancing the body's immunity (22), repairing the intestinal barrier (23), and enhancing the body's antioxidant capacity (24). For example, YPF-P significantly increased the thymus index and promoted the secretion of total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), immunoglobulin A (IgA), immunoglobulin A (IgG) and immunoglobulin M (IgM) and other immune factors and antioxidant factors in the blood (25).…”
