Microwave-assisted functionalization of the Aurivillius phase Bi2SrTa2O9: diol grafting and amine insertion vs. alcohol grafting

Abstract: The microwave-assisted functionalization of an Aurivillius phase is investigated towards various molecules – alcohols, diols and amino-alcohols – and the preferential reactivity of the various moieties is studied as a function of the reaction conditions.

“…18 Furthermore, patterning experiments indicate that the amine replacement method can be employed to create more complex structures coupled with area-resolved intercalation and etching. 36,56 Since the modification of other ionic and also non-ionic layered materials with amines has been studied frequently in the past, 36,[57][58][59][60] the modification process developed in this work is most likely generic. Hence, it can be transferred to other nanosheet-based host materials displaying acid-base behavior and therefore opens up a new methodology for fine-tuning nanosheet properties for sensing applications and beyond.…”

“…By now, the number of various inorganic hosts with both DJ and RP type of structure has been applied for preparation of inorganic-organic derivatives with a row of aliphatic and bulky amines and alcohols, amino alcohols, carboxylic acids, amino acids, carbohydrates, etc. (Hong and Kim, 1996;Han et al, 2001;Tsunoda et al, 2003;Tong et al, 2005;Takeda et al, 2006Takeda et al, , 2008Seiichi and Tahara, 2007;Tahara et al, 2007;Wang et al, 2012Wang et al, , 2018Boykin and Smith, 2015;Shori et al, 2015;Sato et al, 2017;Silyukov et al, 2018).…”

“…Since then, the spectrum of organic compounds introduced into various protonated derivatives of the DJ, RP and AV phases has been significantly expanded (including amino alcohols, carboxylic acids, amino acids, etc.) (Hong and Kim, 1996;Han et al, 2001;Tsunoda et al, 2003;Tong et al, 2005;Takeda et al, 2006Takeda et al, , 2008Tahara, 2007;Wang et al, 2012Wang et al, , 2018Boykin and Smith, 2015;Shori et al, 2015;Sato et al, 2017;Silyukov et al, 2018).…”
