Abstract: Background: The development of the second generation ethanol production technology requires new, highly effective methods of pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass, which reduces lignin content, eliminates fermentation inhibitors, and makes the biomass susceptible to hydrolysis using cellulolytic enzymes.
