Microwave-assisted preparation of urethane-modified polyetheramide coatings from Jatropha seed oil

Abstract: We have developed urethane-modified polyetheramide (UPEtA) by the condensation polymerization reaction of N,N-bis (2-hydroxy ethyl) Jatropha oil fatty amide and hydroquinone to form polyetheramide (PEtA). Jatropha PEtA was further treated with toluylene-2,6-diisocyanate (TDI) in different weight percentage (15, 20, 25 wt%) to produce UPEtA. The structural elucidation of PEtA and UPEtA was carried out by Fourier transform infrared, proton nuclear magnetic resonance and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spect… Show more

“…Various vegetable oil based polyetheramide polyols have been obtained from linseed oil, soybean oil, jatropha oil, olive oil, cottonseed oil, etc. and were subsequently used in coating formulation . Polyetheramide modifications with urethane will improve thermal stability, adhesion, toughness, weatherabilty as well as water and chemical resistance due to the presence of amide as well as ether linkages.…”
