Microwave-assisted Synthesis Silver Nanoparticles and Their Surface Enhancement Raman Scattering

Abstract: A one-step microwave-assisted method was used for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles, and the corresponding nature and structure of silver nanoparticles were characterized by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Raman scattering activities of silver nanoparticles with different reaction time were explored using rhodamine 6G (R6G) as a probe molecule. The results show that the intensity of surface enhancement Raman scattering (SERS) signal… Show more

“…Our experience in the microwave-assisted synthesis of silver nanoparticles [22] allowed using a simple precursor and reducer -silver nitrate and sodium citrate. The optimal molar ratio of the reagents (10 : 10 mM) was chosen by Faxian's protocol [23]. Because both salts are soluble in water, a mixture of ethylene glycol and polyvinylpyrrolidone in an aqueous medium was taken.…”

“…This shows that more energy is needed to produce sharp peak of AgNPs. By increasing the microwave time exposure until 17 minutes, the absorbance peak become increases [12]. Based on Figure 4, by increasing exposure time towards microwave irradiation from 3 to 17 minutes, the darker the colour of colloidal solution.…”

“…The employment of starch in synthesizing AgNPs using microwave method is inexpensive, renewable, natural-occurring and non-toxic as chemical method [12]. Microwaveirradiated AgNPs can be synthesized rapidly with uniform size that do not require high temperature and pressure [12]. Therefore, in these study, AS mediated AgNPs was produced using microwave irradiation method.…”

“…The microwave-assisted synthesis of nanoparticles is by now an established method for the synthesis of uniform metal nanoparticles in solution, which can be applied to fabricate SERS substrates by drop-coating and self-assembly procedures [20][21][22]. Alternatively, monolayers of nanoparticles can be formed directly on substrates by a microwave-assisted one-step fabrication process [23,24] on glass and silicon-based substrates with different shapes (e.g., on flat substrates as well as inside glass capillaries or on scanning force microscopy tips) in a very economic and fast (less than five minutes) coating process.…”
