Mid-Term Results of Simultaneous Reconstruction of Anterior Cruciate and Anterolateral Ligaments in Athletes

Abstract: Relevance. Today, there exist a large number of methods for arthroscopic reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament, however, the return to the competitive level among athletes remains quite low. It is believed that the functional state depends on the restoration of the rotational and anteroposterior stability of the knee. Such data facilitate the search of techniques for additional stabilization of the knee, one of which is the reconstruction of the anterolateral ligament of the knee. The goal of the st… Show more

“…There are only scarce research studies of this autograft type. Some of them attempted to evaluate the mid-term outcomes of using PLT for arthroscopic ACL reconstruction in different groups of patients [9][10][11][12]17]. The outcomes were interpreted as good and excellent; the patients were very satisfied with the results.…”

“…The peroneus longus tendon (PLT) shows promise as an autograft material for ACL reconstruction. It can be easily and quickly harvested, possesses sufficient thickness, and does not affect the dynamic knee joint stabilizers, thereby preventing complications associated with autograft harvesting [9,10]. However, the potential of PLT autografts for arthroscopic ACL reconstruction and their impact on foot function remains not fully understood and requires further elucidation.…”

“…This understanding is pivotal for guiding patient expectations, improving rehabilitation protocols, and enhancing surgical techniques. ACL injuries, which frequently occur in sports involving pivoting movements such as football, basketball, and skiing, not only disrupt an individual's athletic and personal life but also pose a risk for long-term joint health, potentially leading to osteoarthritis [5].…”
