Wang, Fan, & Rigby, 1996; Wu, 1989, 1998; Yang, Yang, Li, & Zhang, 1995), circum‐tropical Tethyan region (Slovenia, Sicily, Tunisia, and Iran) (Flügel et al, 1984; Flügel, Di Stefano, & Senowbari‐Daryan, 1991; Senowbari‐Daryan et al, 2007; Toomey, 1991), and Akiyoshi Limestone, Japan (Nakazawa, Igawa, Ueno, & Fujikawa, 2015). They are commonly constructed by sponges and Archaeolithoporella , as well as one or more other lesser agents like microbes, bryozoans, Shamovella , and syndepositional cement (Chen et al, 2009; L. Liu et al, 2016; Nakazawa et al, 2015; Senowbari‐Daryan et al, 2007; Wahlman et al, 2013). In these reefs, sponges are normally upright in their growth sites (Fagerstrom & Weidlich, 1999; Fan et al, 2002; Flügel et al, 1984; Kirkland et al, 1998; Senowbari‐Daryan et al, 2007), except in several reefs in South China (Fan et al, 1987).…”
