Migratory freshwater fish in Indonesia: Threats and conservation efforts

Abstract: The process of fish migration is one of the most important biological aspects of the life of certain fish species, including fish species that live in freshwaters. In Indonesia’s freshwaters, several types of fish migrate to fulfill parts of their life cycle, such as Anguilla spp., Tor spp., and Rasbora spp., which have economic and ecological values. Fish habitats and migration routes can be affected by many cause changes, including dam constructions, other infrastructure constructions, drainage of wetlands, … Show more

“…These ancestral sogili fences, which use if common in the Poso River have the potential to disrupt sh biodiversity, resulting in a reduction of eel populations -a key predator -and the uncontrolled proliferation of lower-level predators that can dominate river habitats. Additionally, near the estuary of the Poso River, unregulated capture of the glass eel and other amphidromous sh fry poses a signi cant threat to sh biodiversity, further destabilizing the ecosystem of the Poso River (Haryani 2022;Krismono and Putri 2012).…”
