Abstract:Despite immense potential as anti-aging interventions, applications of current senolytics are limited due to low sensitivity and specificity. We demonstrate the specific loss of complex I-linked coupled respiration and the inability to maintain mitochondrial membrane potential upon respiratory stimulation as a specific vulnerability of senescent cells. Further decreasing the mitochondrial membrane potential of senescent cells with a mitochondrial uncoupler synergistically enhances the in vitro senolytic effica… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
