Millimeter Wave Syntheisizer

Abstract

A series of microprocessor controlled millimeter wave synthesizers are 1 __ a being developed based on phased-locked Impatt oscillators with tuning the performance of these synthesizers as well as their specifications I , -4 ranges of 8. to 15 GHz. (1,2v3) The design considerations in optimizing I 3 i . i are presented. i i Instrument Organization and Description A block diagram and photograph of the millimeter wave synthesizer are s h o w in Figures 1 and 2, respectively. The millimeter wave synthesizer shown in Fig-1 i 1 ure 2 consists of three modules: A mainframe, a plug-in microwave frequency -1 ~ reference nodule, and a millimeter wave Bp module. a The mainframe which contains the power supplies, front panel keyboard, 400 ?f€!! reference synthesizer, microprocessor and control circuitry, and IEEE-488 bus interface is common to all the synthesizer bands. The mainframe interfaces to a plug-in microrave frequency reference synthesizer which provides the LO signal to the harmonic mixer.
