“…Most studies ( k = 18) focused on adult‐only populations ( M age = 43), and only two studies included adolescents (Kubiesa, 2017; McMillan, Robertson, Brock, & Chorlton, 2002; M age = 20, SD = 1.38). The gender distribution was relatively even (55% male) across the 18 studies that reported gender, but two studies included only males (Barnes, Rigg, & Williams, 2013; Nassif, 2013). In addition to seeking individuals with brain injury or concussion, additional target populations were military personnel and veterans ( k = 4; two of which focused on veterans with PTSD), college athletes ( k = 1), people with comorbid depression ( k = 2), and substance abuse ( k = 1).…”

“…The number of in‐person sessions ranged from 1 to 36 ( M = 12, SD = 8.52). In addition to in‐person group sessions ( k = 19), one study had one‐on‐one sessions (Barnes et al, 2013), one utilised group phone sessions (Bay & Chan, 2019), one used audiotapes for portable instructions (Nassif, 2013), and one included an online platform for delivery of treatment (Johansson, Bjuhr, Karlsson, et al, 2015). One study's delivery was entirely one‐on‐one (Schmid et al, 2016).…”

“…The iRest® sleep meditation program is based on yoga nidra principles (i.e., practices that promote the state between sleep and wakefulness) and provides verbal narration to guide users to a restful state of body and mind (Miller, 2010). Although a number of studies have demonstrated that the iRest® meditation program has helped decrease stress levels in veterans with PTSD (Stankovic, 2011), female patients with multiple sclerosis and cancer (Pritchard, Elison-Bowers, & Birdsall, 2010), students with anxiety (Eastman-Mueller, Wilson, Jung, Kimura, & Tarrant, 2013), adults with chemical dependence (Temme, Fenster, & Ream, 2012), veterans with chronic pain (Nassif et al, 2016), and health care providers (Bingham, Inman, Walter, Zhang, & Peacock, 2012), no studies to date have assessed the iRest® meditation program’s ability to improve sleep quality.…”
