Mineral Analysis and Physical Characteristics of Beach Sands in Latuhalat and Suli Village to Support the Beach Geotourism of the Maluku Province

Abstract: From the aspect of the earth, the Maluku islands are a unique formation. Because Maluku is at the confluence of four world plates (Indo-Australian plate, Pacific plate, Philippine sea plate and Eurasian plate) so it has an interesting geological structure. One of unique formation is having thousands of islands with charming white sand beaches. White sand beaches are part of the geotourism diversity in Maluku, so… Show more

“…In the sands of Mount Bukit Kota Jawa (Figure 5), the main mineral content is dominated by Quartz (SiO2), Calcite-synthetic (Ca(CO3)), Anorthite ((Ca, Na)(Si, Al)4), followed by other minerals such as Halloysite-7A (Al2Si2O5(OH)4), and Pyroxene (Ca(Mg0.70Al0.30)) are listed on the peaks from the 2θ angle. The results of the measurement of the lattice parameters/size of mineral crystals are only seen from the diffraction pattern of the mineral Quartz (Hariyanto et al, 2021) which is quite abundant for the two mountain sand samples (Sapulete et al, 2020). The size of the quartz mineral crystal can be seen in Table 1.…”

“…One of the supporting economic materials is sand. Sand is a granular material that is often used in building construction, furniture, and crafts (Tang et al, 2017;Sapulete et al, 2020). As we know, sand is very important and very influential as a building material mixed with cement adhesive.…”
