Mineralogy and Permeability of Gas and Oil Dolomite Reservoirs of the Zechstein Main Dolomite Basin in the Lubiatów Deposit (Poland)

Abstract: Permeability characterizes the ability of rocks to store and transport natural gas, crude oil and reservoir fluids. Permeability heterogeneity of reservoir rocks, including dolomites, results from overlapping geological and physicochemical processes. The permeability study of gas-bearing dolomites was carried out on the Lubiatów hydrocarbon deposit (Poland), located at the Ca2 carbonate platform toe-of-slope, which is a prospective area for hydrocarbon exploration in Europe. Due to the complicated rock texture… Show more

“…A consistent paragenetic scheme has been determined for the Hauptdolomit (Fig. 14) based on petrographic analysis of core and cuttings from 11 wells on the MNSH, and on the interpretation of diagenetic processes affecting analogue platform carbonates from fields in Poland such as the BMB and LMG fields (Krogulec et al, 2020;Kosakowski and Krajewski, 2014;Kwolek and Mikolajewski, 2010). The most important diagenetic processes affecting reservoir quality were dolomitization, partial to complete dissolution of the abundant aragonitic grains (green algae, molluscs, some microbialites), anhydrite cementation, dedolomitization, and localised late-stage dissolution of dolomite and anhydrite.…”

“…For the Hauptdolomit in the Kościan field, typical porosities are 13-15% and permeabilities 5-25 mD. In the Lubiatow field, porosities of 5-31% and permeabilities of 1-136 mD are reported (Krogulec et al, 2020). In the Grotów field, average porosity of 10% and permeability of only 0.25 mD is reported from an unusual oomouldic reservoir interpreted to have been deposited in a toeof-slope apron setting (Jasionowski and Zsanowski, in Peryt et al, 2010).…”

“…The Cybinka-Torzym tender area of 668.50 km 2 (165.189 ac) and Zielona Góra West tender area of 954.57 km 2 (235.879 ac) are located in western Poland in the Western Petroleum Province (Figures 2 and 4). The main exploration target is related here to conventional accumulations of gas and oil in the Permian Zechstein Main Dolomite and, less important, in the Upper Rotliegend horizons (Figures 2, 4 and 8) [96,[102][103][104][105][106][107][108][109][110][111][112]. Numerous hydrocarbon fields have been discovered and documented in the southern and eastern part of the Cybinka-Torzym area in the Main Dolomite horizon (Brzózka, Czeklin, Gry żyna, Kije, Kije NE, Kosarzyn N, Koszarzyn S, Kosarzyn E, Ołobok; Figure 6c).…”

“…It was known from the available geological data that the Main Dolomite in the studied area might be saturated with gas, crude oil, and formation water. At least two electrofacies with significant water saturation S w in the bottom part and hydrocarbon saturation S h in the top part of the Main Dolomite were determined [29,30]. Unfortunately, a reliable Rt is needed to determine the saturation correctly.…”
