“…Most surfactants used in traditional emulsion and miniemulsion polymerization are ionic emulsifiers with low molecular weight, such as Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) [96,99] , Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) [100,101] (anionic emulsifiers), Dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) [102] (cationic emulsifier), etc. This kind of surfactant is charged, so it produces a certain degree of hydration.…”

“…For direct miniemulsions, a great deal of work has been carried out about the use of functional hydrophobes that could be involved either in the polymerization itself (monomer, chain transfer agent, initiator) or in the final properties of the latex (elastomers) [10][11][12][13][14][15][16]. Nevertheless, a limited number of papers examined the possibility of combining the two stabilizing functions (against coalescence and Ostwald ripening) into a single constituent of the miniemulsion recipe.…”

“…This is the main reason why the siloxane content in the copolymer could not be enhanced in the copolymer. Kan et al, 11 He et al, 12 and Yu et al 13 have devoted themselves to introducing D 4 and vinyl septamethyl cyclotetrasiloxane (VD 4 ) into the reaction system to enhance the siloxane content in the copolymer. But, the long SiAOASi chains formed by D 4 ring-opening polymerisation were hard to be emulsified, which could engender floating oil and the reaction of the multivinyl group could produce tangles in the chains causing a rapid augmentation of molecular weight so as to generate coagulum.…”
