Abstract

The past five years have been a remarkable period of my life. Pursuing a PhD has truly been an adventure. My PhD experience has been nothing but good. Any facet of a PhD could appear challenging at first, but all of them provided me with invaluable experiences and memories. This is all thanks to people that supported me during this journey.First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my supervisors Prof. Gerard Renardel de Lavalette and Prof. Jorge A. Pérez. Their expertise and supervision made the results in this dissertation possible.Gerard, I am truly thankful for your welcoming attitude and responsiveness. Your research capabilities and experience made every research or administrative task feel effortless. I have always appreciated this. I had a privilege of attending your retirement ceremony which is one of the highlights of my academic life in Groningen. Your guides and advice were invaluable for me and some of them still stick with me.Jorge, I have been continuously inspired by your immense research talent. Your supervision has been invaluable for shaping me as a researcher. Throughout the research process, which presented its challenges at times, your supervision style and dedication ensured a seamless journey. I have never taken this for granted. Your commitment to research has been a source of motivation for me. I will always remember your teachings, our (daily) research discussions, collaborative writing, etc. I gained a lot of knowledge and skills in all aspects of research. This has opened many new perspectives and possibilities for me. Pursuing PhD under your supervision was truly an enriching experience. For all of this you deserve my deepest gratitude. I was fortunate to have you as a daily supervisor. I believe your future students might not be fully aware at the beginning how lucky they are to have you as a supervisor.I am immensely grateful to Prof. Silvia Ghilezan for her mentorship throughout my research endeavour. Prof. Silvia introduced me to the field of logic in Computer Science and provided me with an invaluable opportunity to study Theoretical Computer Science at a master program in Paris. This opened a new research world for me and ultimately paved the way towards my PhD. I am impressed by Silvia's dedication to science and research. I am continuously inspired by Silvia's vast knowledge and contributions in diverse research fields. Silvia's continuous efforts in creating an environment and opportunities for aspiring researchers in Serbia are remarkable and inspiring. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be supported and motivated by Silvia at the beginning of my research journey.In my second year of PhD I did an internship where I was lucky to meet and be supervised by Pavle Subotić.
