Abstract:Although Grignard exchange reactions have been known for about a century, little beyond heuristics guides the prediction of when and where an exchange will occur. Additionally, little is understood from a modeling perspective about why the heuristics work or when they might fail. We develop a simple quantum mechanical model for predicting when and where an exchange will occur. We show that the solvent-free model successfully predicts for reactions regioselectively using only thermodynamic end points. After val… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
